Thursday, March 02, 2017 - Updated: 4:10 PMOn Feb. 23, the Metropolis Police Department received a call from a subject stating he was on his way to crash his vehicle into the home of his father in the 1000 block of E. Second Street. Before officers could reach the residence, calls came in stating a silver Jeep had in fact, crashed into a home and left the scene.
A Metropolis Police sergeant observed a silver Jeep with extensive damage driving eastbound on East Fifth Street. A traffic stop was made at the entrance to Fort Massac State Park. The driver, James Allen Daunis, 36, of Metropolis, was intoxicated. An investigation revealed that Daunis intended to kill his father, by smashing into the gas lines of the residence hoping to cause an explosion or fire. Daunis was arrested and charged with attempted murder, DUI, criminal damage to property, reckless driving and leaving the scene of a crash. Daunis was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.
