dfGeorge R. Modglin passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 at Baptist Health Paducah surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Jan. 17, 1935 in Pulaski County, the son of Henry H. and Cledia Edwards Modglin.
George was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer in Ullin along with his brother Bill.
Together they also did wood construction and carpentry re-model and additions for numerous residents around the Ullin area.
George served on many agriculture and civic boards throughout his life, including the Century School Board and the ASCS office in Mounds.
He was always called on for his thoughts and opinions as his calm and sensible demeanor served him well in making or changing policies and guidelines on the committees he served.
George was also an avid crocheter, a skill his mother taught him at a young age.
He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping, gardening and collecting arrowheads and Case pocket knives.
George was also an excellent cook and artist.
Rest easy Daddy, your work on earth is done. Sadly missed by family and friends.
He is survived by his loving life partner, Norma Wiseman of Metropolis; his daughter, Dianne Droge and her fiancé Tim Timpone of High Ridge, Missouri; his son, George Modglin Jr. and his partner Jake Stuckemeyer of Ullin; special friends, Kyle, Amy and Bentley Pfaff of Olmsted; his grandsons, Danny Droge of Anna and Mason Modglin of Cobden; his sisters-in-law, Carolyn Modglin of Ullin, Kay Dalponte of Highland Park, Cathy and Herb Garrey of Lake Forest, Nancy and Tom Kiddle of Naples, Florida and Pam and Doug Inglish of Maryville, Tennessee; one brother-in-law, Mike Smith of Hendersonville, Tennessee; a special uncle-in-law, Grant Taylor and Wilma; and several nieces and nephews.
George also is grieved by Norma’s side of the family who considered George their second dad and grandpa, Merlene (Don) Jackson, Cheri (Daniel) Thompson, Linda Weatherbee, Adam (Monica) Jackson, Clara and Jane, David Jackson, Aaron (Katie) Jackson, Naomi, Josiah and Hannah, Joshua (Samantha) Marberry, Jessica (Taylor) Wiater, Rinoa, Kerstie (Justin) Moss, Maddox and Aiden and Tanner Weatherbee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Modglin; his brothers, Bill and Henry and his wife Almeta Modglin and Clinton Modglin; and sisters, Minnie, Edith and Althea as well as his parents.
Funeral service was held Friday at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin with Rev. Clint Nale officiating.
Burial followed at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge.
