A.D. Burlison, 87, a resident of rural Metropolis, the Mermet community and a former resident of Union County, passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 28, 2011, at 3 a.m. at his home.

A.D. was born Sept. 10, 1924 in Union County. He was the son of John F. Burlison and Ona M. Stokes Burlison.

A.D. was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He later served in the U.S. Coast Guard along the Mississippi River. A.D. had served as a cook during his tenure in both branches of service.

From the early 1960s through the early 1980s, A.D. worked as a cook at the Choate Mental Health Center in Anna.

A.D. was a former member of the Union Masonic Lodge 627 at Lick Creek. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. A.D. loved his dogs.

In recent days, A.D. was re-baptized in the Christian faith.

Survivors include one daughter, Judy K. Plummer and husband Mickey of Anna; one stepdaughter, Beverly Sue Mahan and husband Glenn of Marion; two grandchildren, Matthew Plummer of Anna and Lindsey Plummer of Jonesboro; one great-grandchild, Zane Duty of Jonesboro; five stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Wilma Lingle of Anna and Velta Dameron of Young, Ariz.; one cousin, Carl Hudgens of Marion; dear and special friends, Buck and Dorothy Lange of Metropolis; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends and hunting and fishing buddies.

In addition to his parents, A.D. was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carolyn Ann Burlison.

Funeral service was held Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna with Pastor Tom Emmerson officiating.

Burial followed at Mt. Hebron Cemetery west of Goreville.
