Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna with Pastor Don Carlton and Pastor Harold Canup Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at West Eden Cemetery near Cypress.
Alberta was born Sept. 16, 1918 in Massac County. She was the daughter of James Frank Crockett and Grace Leona Gurley Crockett.
Alberta was united in marriage to Micah C.C. Canup on Dec. 4, 1937 in Wickliffe, Ky. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1995.
Alberta was a graduate of New Columbia High School. She was a homemaker and had previously worked at Forest Display Co. in Aurora.
In her spare time, Alberta loved tending her vegetable garden and raising flowers.
As she was raising her family, Alberta was very active in Scouting organizations, the PTA and later did volunteer work for the Amvets.
Alberta was a faithful Christian and attended World of Pentecost Church in Metropolis.
Survivors include her children, Harold E. and Deloris Canup of Stonefort, Norma and Don Carlton and Joyce and Wayne Butler, all of Metropolis, Kenneth and Rose Canup of St. Louis, Mo., Larry and Denise Canup of Wichita, Kan. and Patricia and Jeff Taylor of Paducah; 17 grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one sister, Lillian Canup of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Alberta was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Brown; and four brothers, Charles, George, Lannis and Raymond Crockett.
Visitation will be from 4–8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 at the funeral home.
