Alberta L. Swinford, 99, of Metropolis, passed away at 2:33 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.

Alberta was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Rosebud.

Alberta was a giving and loving person who always had a smile on her face. She never met a stranger and was always first to help anyone in need. She loved the Lord and lived her faith daily. She taught her children about God’s love and his forgiveness. She was the greatest of role models as a mother.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Swinford of Symsonia, Ky.; two sons, Walter Swinford of New Columbia and Virgil Swinford of Union City, Tenn.; her grandchildren, Allison Garcia and husband Stephen of Sunny Vail, Calif., Rachelle Larimer and husband Brett of Paducah and Jessica Swinford of South Fulton, Tenn.; her great-grandchildren, Brooke Larimer and Brennan Larimer; one son-in-law, Paul Burson of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Bertha Mittendorf Krueger; her husband, Thomas T. Swinford; her daughter, Bertha “Pat” Burson; two sisters; and two brothers.

Graveside service was held Tuesday at St. Stephens Lutheran Church Cemetery in Massac County with Bro. Kevin Richardson officiating. Music was provided by Beth Clanahan, soloist.

Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home of Metropolis was in charge of arrangements.
