Investigators recently released that a shooting that occurred in Harrah's Metropolis Casino parking lot on Jan. 6 was a suicide attempt.

Robert A. Drew, a Marion attorney, is believed to have shot himself in the Harrah's parking lot, according to Massac County State's Attorney Patrick Windhorst.

Federal charges in Terre Haute, Ind. are pending against Drew. A grand jury has indicted him on charges that he attempted to provide heroin to an inmate in the federal prison.

"Law enforcement does not believe anyone else was involved other than Mr. Drew," said Windhorst. "Law enforcement believes the incident was a suicide attempt."

According to Windhorst, the investigation was conducted by Metropolis Police Department, which reviewed the surveillance tapes, which indicated no one approached Drew's car during the time of the shooting as Drew had claimed.

Drew called 911 after telling police someone had shot him. "The way he described it happened was not borne out by the surveillance," said Windhorst, who said police finalized their investigation the week of June 13.
