Blanche Bakehouse Rathje, 91, of Metropolis, passed away at 3:10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah with her family at her side.

Blanche was born on Sept. 13, 1920 to Frank and Hattie Bakehouse in Metropolis. She married Herman John Rathje on May 23, 1964. They retired to Metropolis in 1983, where they joined First United Methodist Church. They were active at Happy Hearts Senior Center in Metropolis.

Survivors include her husband, Herman Rathje of Metropolis; one daughter, Rosemary Murphy and husband Larry of Midlothian, Texas; one son, Ronald Dieckman and wife Sherry of Crete; two grandsons, John Jeffery Kellems and wife Donna of Jonesboro, Ark. and David Brian Kellems and wife Kimberly of Forney, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Brittani, Ashley, Alex and Caleb Kellems; two stepgrandsons, Michael Balfor and wife Danyell of Austin, Texas and Raviv Balfor of Los Angeles, Calif.; and one stepgreat-grandson, Tyler Balfor.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Dieckman; one daughter, Roxane Dieckman; her parents, Frank and Hattie Bakehouse; and one brother, Albert Bakehouse.

Funeral service was held Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. Gary Motta officiating.

Burial followed at the Masonic Cemetery in Metropolis. Pallbearers were Larry Murphy, John Kellems, David Kellems, Leland Bakehouse, Duane Goins and Ron Dieckman.
