Brad “Charles Bradford” Faughn, 59, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Metropolis, died Monday, June 11, 2011, after a valiant fight against cancer.

Born Feb. 16, 1953 to Harley and Geneva Faughn of Metropolis, Brad graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1984, while at the same time he was overseeing the renovation of the Orpheum Theater in Marion. In 1996, Brad received a master’s degree in art administration from the University of Wisconsin, where he remained as the executive director of the Wausau Performing Arts Foundation for the next six years.

Brad loved the arts and bringing the past back to life. During his career, he directed organizations which provided funding to a variety of cultural activities and oversaw historical renovations in Fort Wayne, Ind., in Jacksonville at the Times Union Center for the Performing Arts and as the project executive at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In 2001, he moved back to Jacksonville and to Gillian, his wife. He started renovating historic homes in the area and started his own construction business, which he ran until his death. Brad’s passion for preserving our history and promoting the arts has touched and will continue to touch many generations who see the buildings he helped preserve and experience the creativity he embraced.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gillian, his stepchildren, Clare Aronow (Rich Bonneau) and Jeremy Baker; his stepgrandsons, Theodore and Rainier Bonneau; his sister Harlene (Hank) Allen; his sister-in-law, Clyda Faughn; his nephews, David Faughn, Phillip Faughn and Justin Scharber; his nieces, Shelby Logeman and Julia Logeman; his beloved aunt, Wilma Anderson; his aunts, Charlotte Wray and Louise Watkins; and his uncle Jim Watkins.

Brad was predeceased by his parents Harley and Geneva Faughn; and his brother, Dwight Faughn.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, June 19 at Jacksonville Historical Society’s Old St. Andrews Church, 317 A. Philip Randolph Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32202.
