The new vehicle will expand the organization’s ability to provide meals to older individuals in the community.
Meals On Wheels currently serves hundreds of older individuals in the greater Metropolis area by delivering 2000 well-balanced meals each month. The new vehicle will help to deliver more than 360 additional prepared meals annually.
“Senior hunger is one of the most critical issues individuals are facing across the country,” said Cynthia Conder of Happy Hearts Senior Citizen Center. “It is inspiring to see a community partner like Caesars Foundation step up in a very tangible way to enhance the quality of life of seniors across the country. Harrah’s Metropolis and the Caesars Foundation’s commitment to improving the health and wellness of older individuals in Metropolis is unwavering.”
Since its relationship with Meals On Wheels began, the Foundation has given two vehicles totaling $60,000 to support the plight of ending senior hunger in the community. Another three vehicles were given in Chicago.
The Metropolis gift is the 48th vehicle the Foundation has purchased for Meals On Wheels affiliates across the country.
“The service that Happy Hearts Senior Citizen Center provides to the countless grandparents, friends and neighbors in our community is invaluable and extraordinary,” said Mark Osterhaus, general manager of Harrah’s Metropolis. “We are very proud to be a part of the solution to decreasing hunger here in Metropolis.”
