A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lutheran Church of the Cross with Rev. David Deem officiating. Burial will follow at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with a military service conducted.
Mr. Verbarg was an U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War, and a member of the Laborers International Union for 55 years.
Survivors include his son Ira Kirby and wife Sharon of Crown Point; his grandchildren, Gayla and husband Daniel Miller of Crown Point, Jennifer and husband Raymond Adams of Coal City, W.Va. and Tim Kirby of Hebron, Ind.; his great-grandchildren, Emma and husband Robby Basham, Lindsey Adams, Nicole Miller and Natalie and Madelyn Kirby; two nieces, Judy Duckworth and Marla Brenningmeyer, both of Metropolis; and one nephew, Steve Brenningmeyer of Metropolis.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Lucille Verbarg; his parents, Willie and Alice Verbarg; and sister Alfreda and husband Harold Brenningmeyer.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the service hour at the church.
