Carl Edward Golightly, 88, of Salem, Ky., formerly of Paducah, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013 at Springlake Nursing Home in Salem.

Born Dec. 10, 1924 in Massac County, Mr. Golightly moved to Paducah as a child where he was raised. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy in April 1941 and was stationed on the USS California.

Mr. Golightly worked at the Union Carbide Plant in Paducah from 1954 to his retirement in 1983. He was a member of Twelve Oaks Baptist Church in Paducah, American Legion Chief Paduke Post 31 and the United Steelworkers Union Local 550.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Nell Golightly; one daughter, Sara Catherine Golightly of Paducah; three sons, Michael Golightly and wife Julie, Wayne Golightly and wife Sherry and Jeff Golightly and wife Susan, all of Paducah; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rubin and Mae Golightly; one grandson, Wesley Robert Golightly; one brother, Fred Golightly; and one sister, Cornel Kolb.

Funeral service was held Friday at Milner & Orr Funeral Home in Paducah with Dr. Ben Boone officiating. Burial followed at Maplelawn Park Cemetery in Paducah with military honors conducted.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
