Carl Henry Verbarg, born Dec. 2, 1922 in Massac County, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 in Crown Point, Ind. at the age of 89.

Carl was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean War, and a member of the Laborers International Union for 55 years.

He is survived by his son Ira and daughter-in-law Sharon Kirby of Crown Point; his grandchildren, Gayla and husband Daniel Miller of Crown Point, Jennifer and husband Raymond Adams of Coal City, W.Va. and Tim Kirby of Hebron, Ind.; his great-grandchildren, Emma and husband Robby Basham, Lindsay Adams, Nicole Miller and Natalie and Madelyn Kirby; two nieces, Judy Duckworth and Marla Brenningmeyer, both of Metropolis; and one nephew, Steve Brenningmeyer of Metropolis.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Lucille Verbarg; his parents, Willie and Alice Verbarg; one sister Alfreda and husband Harold Brenningmeyer; and a special friend, Wanda Steinkamp.

Carl’s last two years were spent with his son and daughter-in-law in their home in Crown Point, and his family is grateful for the special times that they shared with him, vacationing in the Great Smoky Mountains, Grandparent’s Day at school and watching the Cubs games.

A memorial service will take place in Metropolis at a later date.
