The 2014 baseball season for Massac County ended Monday afternoon with a 7-4 loss at the hands of the Carterville Lions.

The Lions got to Massac starter Dalton Mitchell for a pair of runs in the first inning, but then things went really badly for the Pats as the Lions used an error, a wild pitch and three singles to push across three more runs in the second.

When Mitchell walked the leadoff batter in the third inning, he was lifted for Jay Benard. The Lions managed one more tally in the third inning and touched Benard for another late inning run. Meanwhile, the Pats got a homerun to left off the bat of Jacob Cox in the second to begin the comeback. J.T. Weber and Benard both had RBI hits in the third inning to cut the lead to 6-3.
