Carterville’s Nora Jacobs turned in a whale of a performance Tuesday, March 25 against Massac County’s Lady Patriots softball team.

Jacobs cracked a home run and a two-run double, as well as tossing four-and-a-third innings of air tight relief for Lady Lions’ starter Baleigh Koester in the dramatic 10-9 comeback.

Early on, it looked like Massac was going to roll over the Lady Lions as they took a 9-2 lead after just three innings.

Jessie Douglas led off the Lady Pats’ big third inning with a scorching home run, and the girls batted around scoring seven runs for the 9-2 lead.

But Carterville wasn’t done and closed the gap to 9-6 going into the seventh inning.

Kylee Rock led off the seventh with a sizzling homer that just cleared the left field fence.

Jacob’s two-run double tied the score, and Taylor Williams singled in the winning run for Carterville.

Massac was unable to solve Jacobs’ deliveries in the seventh as had been the case since the third inning, when she took over from Koester.

Lady Patriots coach Pat Clark had high praise for Jacobs after her performance.

“I told Nora that her demeanor in the circle was phenomenal from the time she entered until the end of the game,” he said. “It was everything you would expect from a senior. She didn’t want to give up anything and she dominated the last four innings.”

Dodging raindrops, the Lady Patriots visited Ballard Memorial Thursday, rolling over the Lady Bombers 12-0.
