Charles David Vaughn, 84, of Valparaiso, Ind., formerly of Metropolis, died on his birthday, Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012.

Born Dec. 15, 1928 in Metropolis, Mr. Vaughn attended Dyer High School.

He served with the U.S. Army as a master sergeant in England, Korea and Japan.

He retired from the Budd Co. in Gary, Ind. with 25 years of service.

Mr. Vaughn had owned and operated Vaughn’s Heating and Air Conditioning in Valparaiso for 30 years and was a member of Liberty Bible Church in Chesterton, Ind.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Olive Will Vaughn; two daughters, Deborah Shaw and husband Pete of Valparaiso, Laura Vaughn of Elkhart, Ind.; two grandchildren: Sarah Wright and husband Steve and Michael Shaw and wife Kelly; and two great-grandsons, Miles and Franklin Wright.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. and Birdie Jane Fisher Vaughn; and five siblings.

Funeral service was held Thursday at Liberty Bible Church with Rev. Bob Nienhuis officiating.

Cremation followed at Angelcrest Crematory.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.

Moeller Funeral Home in Valparaiso was in charge of arrangements.
