Charlotte L. Potterbaum Bakehouse, 74, of Metropolis, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.

Born Dec. 15, 1938 in Rosiclare, Mrs. Bakehouse worked for the University of Illinois as the 4-H Extension Advisor of Massac County for many years, was secretary of Farm Bureau for seven years, and she was active in the community serving on the Fair Board. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Metropolis.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Leland Bakehouse; four children, Debbie Emmerson and husband Tom and Brenda Bakehouse. all of Metropolis, Nancy Jones and husband Wayne of Smithland, Ky. and Mike Bakehouse and wife Amy of Paducah; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Gloria Whitten and husband Leo of Bradley; one niece; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Jennie Walter Potterbaum; and two granddaughters, Leslie Lewis and Crystal Green.

Funeral service was heldSaturday at St. Stephens Lutheran Church with Rev. Tom Emmerson officiating.

Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Wayne Jones, Andrew Emmerson, Brandon Bakehouse, Dylan Bakehouse, Logan Bakehouse and Daniel Lewis.

Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
