Born March 7, 1941 in Metropolis, Mrs. Johnson was a 1959 graduate of Metropolis Community High School and graduated with a nursing degree from Deaconess Hospital’s School of Nursing in August 1962. She was a registered nurse.
In February 2012, she received recognition from the State of Missouri for 50 years of continuous nursing.
At the time of her death, she was employed at Coventry Workers Comp Service as a field case manager.
Survivors include one son, Cario Johnson of St. Louis; one granddaughter, Sumayah Johnson of Los Angeles, Calif.; her mother, Dorothy Mathis of Metropolis; and one sister, Phyllis Foy of Detroit, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Johnson; and her father, Charles Mathis.
Funeral service was held Oct. 6 at New Northside Baptist Church in St. Louis with Rev. Rodrick Burton officiating.
Music was provided by Autry Jackson.
Burial followed at Valhalla Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Christopher Walker, Mike Mathis, David Daughtry, Miguel Jones, Richard Cheers and Terry Rhymes.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Feed the Children organization.
Granberry Mortuary Inc. of St. Louis was in charge of the arrangements.
