The trip to Peoria wasn’t exactly what she had envisioned, but Kaylee Childers’ last appearance at the Eastside Centre was nonetheless a memorable one.

Childers was named to play in the Illinois Super Sixty, a showcase event held at the site of the IHSA State Championships for the top 60 seniors in the state. She left quite an impression.

In the first game of the two game showcase, Childers was called on in the fourth inning. Pinch-hitting, with her team trailing 3-2, Childers ripped a two-run homer to left center to take the lead.

She was then asked to preserve the lead in the circle, and she did what she does. Childers threw the last four innings allowing one hit and no runs to get the win.

Winning pitcher with the game winning hit, not a bad day’s work right there.

But Childers wasn’t quite done. In the second game, she went three for five with a bases clearing double for a five RBI performance.

Goreville’s Taylor Odom and Johnston City’s Smiley and Thomas also participated in the prestigious event held this past Sunday.
