Cletis was born April 20, 1929 in Unionville to William Ross and Effie Lee Foe Burrus. He married Ganalda R. Coley on May 3, 1972 in Brookport. She preceded him in death on Oct, 24, 1999.
Cletis was retired, having worked at I.C.G. Railroad and V.M.V Railroad in Paducah as a boilermaker for many years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served his country honorably during the Korean War.
He was a member of the Brookport Church of God.
Cletis enjoyed fishing and playing cards. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include five sons, Marvin Burrus and wife Beverly of Kuttawa, Ky., Ricky Burrus of Detroit, Mich., Terry Burrus of Golconda, Jerry Burrus of Possum Trot, Ky. and Christopher Hannah of Brookport; five stepchildren, Kenny Coley and wife Rita, Tommy Coley and wife Misti, Pam Miller and husband Charlie, Phyllis Hayden and husband David and Melanie Prine and husband Jimmy of Paducah; 19 grandchildren, Christopher Burrus, Candice Williams, Elaina, Miranda, Katrina, Dustin, Joe, Josh, Theron and Troye Burrus, Jennifer Alvarez, Tyler, Trey, Kyle and Courtney Coley, Melissa and Whitney Hayden, Renee Young, Jared and Jamie Prine; numerous great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one son, Danny Burrus; and eight siblings, Anna Mae and Lucille Burrus, Freida Johnson, Edith Henly, Ross “Junior” Burrus, Freeman Burrus, Lewis Burrus and Bill Gower, whom the family raised as a son.
Funeral service was held Monday at Brookport Church of with Rev. Charles Tate and Rev. Willard Walls officiating. Burial will follow at Douglas Cemetery in Unionville at a later date.
