A contractor for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced last week that even though paving has been completed on the Interstate 24 Ohio River Bridge, lanes will still be restricted due to traffic striping and other finish work.
While there will be a lane restriction, there will be no load width restriction. This should allow traffic to move through the work zone more smoothly and efficiently.
IDOT expects the work zone to be in place for about another two weeks.
Motorists should be alert for slowing and merging traffic as they approach this work zone at the Illinois-Kentucky state line. There is a strictly enforced 55-mile per hour work zone speed limit.
Halverson Construction is the prime contractor on this $2.1 million IDOT bridge maintenance project which includes installation of new joints and a deck overlay.
