David J. “Ponytail” Schmertman, 55, of Metropolis, formerly of the Rockford area, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at Lourdes hospital in Paducah.

A memorial service will be held from noon until 3 p.m. Saturday at Boo-Boo’s Burgers and Billiards, located at 318 Scott St. in Metropolis.

Born March 16, 1958, Mr. Schmertman was an automotive mechanic and a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his father, Paul L. Schmertman of Horseshoe, N.C.; one son, Cory Kuehne and wife Julia of Rockford; two daughter, Jolene Taylor and Tiffany Taylor, both of Metropolis; two brothers, Jeff Williams and David Williams, both of Metropolis; three sisters, Kathleen Schott-Anderson and husband Don of Monroe Center, Sheila Noel and husband Chuck of Fuquay Varina, N.C. and Susan Young and husband Dewayne of Paragould, Ark.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce E. Schmertman; and one grandson, Auguste Kuehne.

Lindsey Funeral Home in Paducah was in charge of arrangements.
