Mr. McQueen was born Dec. 14, 1922 in Sayre, Okla. to Martin C. and Zelma Iona Pea McQueen. Don and his wife, Betty, had lived in Metropolis since 1950.
He was a member and elder of First Christian Church in Metropolis for over 60 years, teaching the Loyal Hearts Sunday school class and was chairman of the church board.
Mr. McQueen was an industrial arts teacher at Metropolis Community High School for 32 years. He was in general a good handy man.
He served in the Army Air-Corp during World War II as a second lieutenant.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty; three children, Donna Smith and husband Jerry of Glastonbury, Conn., Allen McQueen and wife Pam of Lowell, Mich. and Mark McQueen and wife Cheryl of Mary Esther, Fla.; one sister, Rita Outland of Gold Canyon, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Amanda Garrity and husband Adam of Glastonbury, Jim McQueen of Lowell, Laura Schultz and husband Nick of Grand Rapids, Mich., Melissa Gentry and fiancé Drew Quint of Brookport and Valerie Holt and husband Matt of Belknap; and five great-grandchildren, Noah and Kristian Garrity, Jenna and Jake Gentry and Keely Jo Holt
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Lou Dixon; one granddaughter, Krista Smith; and one great-grandson, Callan Garrity.
Funeral service was held Friday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home with Rev. David Deem and Rev. Terry Moore officiating.
Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites. Pallbearers were Allen McQueen, Mark McQueen, Jim McQueen, Matt Holt, Adam Garrity and Drew Quint
