Douglas “Doug” Ray Pool, 57, a longtime resident of Green River, Wyoming, lost his hard fought battle with cancer on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014.

A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at the Green River Expedition Island Pavilion on Sunday from 3-7 p.m.  In honor of Doug’s love for cooking, the family is hosting a potluck barbecue and asks anyone who wishes to participate to bring a covered dish.

Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Doug was born Feb. 26, 1957 in Joliet, the son of Kenneth Ray Pool and Judith Ann Moore Pool.

Doug was a 1975 graduate from his hometown high school in Eldorado and a student of Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg.

On July 24, 1976 he married Dorita Knight of Carmi.  He and his wife were blessed with two daughters, Angelique Pool and Amanda Pool; and one grandson, Kaden Hayward Ray Davis, all of Salt Lake City, Utah.

In 1991, he moved his family to Wyoming.  He was a loyal employee to OCI until his retirement in 2007.

Sparked by his serious passion for reading and the excitement he had for the authors he loved, he served on the Sweetwater County Library Board.  He considered the wonderful staff of the library close friends.

His family and friends will forever remember him for his love of hunting, guns and reloading; fresh cut grass with St. Louis Cardinal baseball on TV; anything John Deere; the best grilled ribeye steaks and the unconditional love for his girls and grandson.

Survivors include his wife, daughters and grandson; his father, Kenneth Pool and wife Dorothy of Metropolis; one brother, Mike Pool of Metropolis; one sister, Michelle Pool Huggins of Jackson, Missouri; one stepbrother, Dean Lovellette of Eldorado; his grandmother, Rosa Lee Pool of Broughton; his in-laws, Loyal and Gay Ella Knight of Carmi; one sister-in-law, Lucy Mathew of Evansville, Indiana; one brother-in-law, Duane Knight of Berea, Kentucky; and all his families.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Judith Ann Pool; his grandfather, Ezra Pool, and his grandparents, Claude and Lulu Moore; and his beloved dog, Molly.

The family would like to express special thanks and gratitude to Hospice of Sweetwater County.

Memorials may be made to the SWC Library System, 300N First St., Green River, WY 82935; or to Hospice of SWC, 809 Thompson St., Suite D, Rock Springs, WY 82901.
