After almost 19 months of waiting, the Metropolis City Council received word Feb. 8 that the city’s Long Term Control Plan (LTCP) to separate the combined sewer overflow has been approved by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

Where to go from here will be the key topic when the LTCP’s task force meets with the Water, Street & Light (WSL)Committee next week. The meeting, which will be open to the public, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, in city council chambers located in the upstairs of Metropolis City Hall.

Joe Matesevac, with the city’s engineering firm Engineering Inc., informed council members of the approval during a Water, Street & Light Committee meeting held Feb. 8, stating the firm and the city received the approval letter from EPA the previous week.
