Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26 at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Metropolis with Rev. David Deem officiating. Music will be provided by Cathy Tilker, organist/pianist. Burial will follow at Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Markus’ grandsons: Brian Chambers, Mark Chambers, Keith Markus, Chris Markus, Edwin Robert Markus,and Allen Markus. Honorary pallbearer will be Ben Markus.
Mrs. Markus was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Cross.
Survivors include two daughters; Rose Mary Chambers of Metropolis and Helen Branham and husband Leroy of Kevil, Ky.; two sons, Chris Markus and wife Susan of Metropolis and Edward Markus and wife Bobbie of Diamond; eight grandchildren, Brian Chambers and Chris Markus and wife Lyndsi, all of Metropolis, Mark Chambers and wife Nadia of Mount Dora, Fla., Amanda Branham and husband Shane Pace of Kevil, Keith Markus and wife Shannon of Temple Hill, Jennifer Jacobsen and husband Lowell of Joliet, Edwin Robert Markus of Gurnee and Allen Markus of Morris; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Amanda Riepe Schmidt; her husband, Edwin Markus; two grandchildren, John Patrick Markus and Tamara Branham; one sister, Blanche Niccum; and two brothers, Henry Schmidt and Walter Schmidt.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour at the church.
