Mr. May was a member of the Metropolis First Methodist Church, a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and was an Army veteran, serving during World War II. He and his wife were active at St. Ann’s Lake in Somerset, Mich. They also owned M and M Ceramics, and he worked as a dispatcher for an Automobile Transport Co.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Wemhoener of Metropolis; three brothers, Franklin May of St. Charles, Mo. and Wesley and Wilburn May, both of Metropolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles O. and Minnie L. King May; his wife Wanda May; and two brothers, Lindell and Richard May.
Funeral service was held Sunday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home with Rev. Jon Cockrel officiating. Music was provided by Karen Wemhoener.
Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Jerry May, Steven May, Robert Wemhoener, Mike Woodrum, John Woodrum and Paul Childers.
