Electa L. McDearmon, 81, of Metropolis, passed away at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at her residence with her family by her side.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 1 at First Christian Church in Metropolis with Rev. Mike Duncan officiating.

Burial will follow at Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Ryan McDearmon, Travis McDearmon, Eric McDearmon and Zach McDearmon.

Electa worked at and retired from Valco Feed Co. after 38 years.

She was a lifetime member of First Christian Church and was baptized on Easter Sunday in 1950.

She was also a member of the Metropolis Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, First Christian Church Club and the Christian Women’s Fellowship Club.

Electa is survived by her husband of 62 ¾ years, Stewart “Mutt” McDearmon of Metropolis; one son, Randall McDearmon and wife Joanne of Metropolis; five grandchildren, Ryan McDearmon and wife Kristen of Nashville, Tenn., Melissa McDearmon of St. Louis, Mo., James Travis McDearmon and wife Julie of Lexington, Ky. and Eric McDearmon and Zach McDearmon, both of Metropolis; one great-grandson, Connor McDearmon of Metropolis; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Gertrude Schmidt Caywood; one son, Michael McDearmon; and her brother, Floyd Schmidt.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 420 Catherine St., Metropolis, IL 62960.

Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home of Metropolis is in charge of arrangements.
