Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Metropolis with Rev. David Deem officiating. Burial will follow at the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Born Nov. 22, 1922, in Lake Linden, Michigan, Mrs. Stanton was a special education teacher with bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southern Illinois University, where she graduated summa cum laude. She retired from Massac Unit One School District and continued to substitute teach.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was involved in WELCA and a member of the morning Bible class.
Mrs. Stanton was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, a past president and member of Delta Theta Tau sorority and a member of Pi Lambda Theta Tau Honor Society.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Stanton and wife Mary of Bloomington, John Stanton and wife Yvonne of Metropolis and Robert Stanton of Mayfield, Kentucky; two daughters, Mary Seay and husband Eddie of Mayfield and Kathy Evanko and husband Joe of West Paducah; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jennie Nordbeck of Minnesota and Helen Lund of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Anna Koski; her husband of 62 years, Larry Stanton; four brothers, Fred, William, Kaarlo and Reuben Koski; and five sisters, Katherine Putansu, Eleanor Juntunen, Mildred Johnson, Aileen Normand and May Fraatz.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home and on Thursday at the church from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour.
