In a 7-2 vote Monday night, the Metropolis City Council sold the Massac Theatre building to a familiar face.

Aldermen David McManus and Jerry Mizell voted against the measure. Aldermen Kim Brown, David Daugherty, Charles Barfield, Bill Carrell, Bob Midnight and Richard Corzine and Mayor Billy McDaniel voted in favor of the sale.

Larry Ward is the manager of Noel Neill, the actress known for her portrayal of the Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane in the 1948 Superman serial and then from 1953-58 in the Adventures of Superman television series. He began visiting Metropolis in 2002, accompanying Neill during her Superman Celebration appearances. A former minor league baseball player, Ward is also the co-founder of the Superman Fan Baseball Game held annually during the celebration.

"The first thing that struck me back in 2002 was the huge outpouring of unconditional positive regard that Noel and I both received, and that has continued to this day," Ward said of Metropolis.
