For 3-year-old Silas, hero is just a mom away

For 3-year-old Silas Pegram, attending the White House Easter egg roll, visiting the White House and seeing the president and his family was a cool, but nothing compared to seeing the Power Ranger. No doubt it was a great moment for a child who looks up to the fictional team of costumed hero characters.

But what Silas may be too young to realize right now is how much his mother is sacrificing, thus making her a true hero in and out of uniform.

Kristy Pegram, of Massac County, has served on active duty in the Navy for seven years and is currently stationed at Stennis Space Center at the Naval Oceanography Mine Warfare Center (NOMWC) on the Gulf Coast. Pegram received an e-mail from her executive officer regarding the Easter egg roll at the White House.
