Forrest Dennis, 78, of Metropolis, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011 at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. Mike Hardison officiating.

Burial will follow at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with military rites conducted. Pallbearers will be Floyd Sullivan, Joe Jackson, Rollo Burnett, Corey Wright, Jerel Childers and Andy Herron. Honorary pallbearer will be Bob Grace.

Mr. Dennis retired from American Electric Power. He was a member of Community Christian Church and worked as a precinct committeeman with the Democratic party.

Mr. Dennis was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer Osborne and husband Edward of Louisville, Ky.; one son, Jeffrey Dennis of Metropolis; one granddaughter, Destiny Osborne of Louisville; one cousin, who he was raised with, Violet Dennis; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Anna Dennis; his wife, Mary Ann Dennis; his uncle and aunt, who raised him, Loren and Birdie Oliver; cousins, who he was raised with, Russell and Kenneth Oliver; one sister, Dathel Russell; and one brother, Millard Dennis.

Memorials may be made to Special Olympics Team, Louisville Llamas, 10507 Sunlight Lane, Louisville, KY 40272.

Miller Funeral Home of Metropolis is in charge of arrangements.
