Frank Thoms, 68, of rural Metropolis, died Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.

Born Jan. 12, 1945 in Coulterville, Mr. Thoms was a 1963 graduate of Coulterville High School.

He attended the Franklin Truck Driving School in Paducah.

Mr. Thoms was employed for over 28 years as a railroad clerk. He had worked for the GM&O (Gulf, Mobile and Ohio), the ICG (Illinois Central Gulf) and the P&L (Paducah and Louisville) railroad lines.

He was also a former union representative and local chairman for the Brotherhood of Railroad and Airline Clerks union.

Additionally, Mr. Thoms was employed for 15 years by Dippin’ Dots as a driver and vendor.

He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Paducah.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Marie Rabe Thoms; one son, Frederick Dean Thoms of Metropolis; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Canup of Metropolis; two granddaughters, Karyn Marie Canup and Chloe Elizabeth Canup; one sister, Linda Thoms of Coulterville; two brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andreas “Andy” Thoms and Annie Lawless Thoms; one brother, Andreas Fred Thoms; and one sister, Carolyn Thoms.

Funeral service was held Tuesday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
