Garvin D. “Judge” Rutherford Sr., 84, of Metropolis, died Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Rutherford retired after 23 years of service from Allied Signal of Metropolis. He was a member of Moose Lodge 282 and a former member of the OddFellows and Jaycees.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Betty Rutherford of Metropolis; one son, Deneen Rutherford and wife Gayla of Metropolis; three grandchildren, Chris Rutherford of Newburgh, Ind., Derek Rutherford of Cypress and Crystal Benard of Paducah; six great-grandchildren, Devon Rutherford and Christopher Rutherford, both of Newburgh, Iris Rutherford, Thomas Rutherford and Amos Rutherford, all of Cypress, and Seth Walker of Paducah; one sister, Wanda Riggs of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Byron and Mamie Oxford Rutherford; an infant son; one sister, Idas Pulaski; and three brothers, Adrian Rutherford, Oren Rutherford and Hansel Rutherford.

Funeral service was held Thursday at Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. David Deem officiating.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
