Gaye was born Feb. 25, 1950 in Metropolis to Calvin and Dorothy Martin Blomer. She married Nickey Joe Johnston on Sept. 16, 1964 in Golconda. Gaye and Nickey have shared 47 years of marriage together.
Gaye worked several years as a home health aid for Shawnee Alliance for Seniors. She most recently worked for Addus Health Care until her health began to fail. Gaye was of the Christian faith.
Gaye enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She loved flowers and always enjoyed a good yard sale.
Survivors include her husband, Nickey Johnston of Hamletsburg; two children, Nickey Johnston, II and wife Danielle of New Liberty and Amanda Harris of Hamletsburg; four grandchildren, Landon Harris of Hamletsburg and Addison, Viktoria and Laikyn Johnston of New Liberty; one sister, Nancy Edington and husband Dale of Ledbetter, Ky.; one brother-in-law, Vernon Johnston of Paducah; two sisters-in-law, Donna “Tootsie” Mann of New Liberty and Barbara Sebastian and husband Thomas of Wilmette; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Sandra Gaye Johnston; one sister, Antionette Babin; and one brother-in-law, Bill Gower.
Funeral service was held Thursday at Brookport Church of God with Rev. Charles Tate officiating.
Burial followed at Dugger Cemetery in Unionville. Pallbearers were Michael Edington, Chad Edington, Troy Mann, Steven Ohse, Duane Johnston and Dewayne Klotz.
Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City was in charge of arrangements.
