Geneva Lucille Faughn, of Metropolis, passed away at 9:19 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2012 following a long and arduous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

Geneva came into this world on Nov. 24, 1921, the first of nine children born to Alma and John Watkins.

On Oct. 29, 1941, Geneva married Harley Faughn. Their time together was cut short by the attack on Pearl Harbor and Harley’s enlistment in the U.S. Army in January 1942. While Harley served in the war, Geneva did her part on the home front, serving as a bona-fide “Rosie the Riveter” helping to assemble P38 aircraft at a plant in Evansville, Ind. In 1950 she and Harley purchased the Hotel Metropolis and operated it until 1971. She was a member of Metropolis First Christian Church.

Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Faughn; her son, Dwight Faughn; her parents; her sister, Margaret Fincher; and brothers, John, Dale and Robert Watkins.

She is survived by her son, Brad; her daughter, Harlene Allen; daughter-in-laws, Clyda Faughn and Gillian Faughn; son-in-law, Hank Allen; granddaughters, Shelby and Julia Logeman; grandsons, David and Philip Faughn and Justin Scharber; great-grandsons, Logan and Hayden Faughn; great granddaughter, Hannah Scharber; sisters, Louise Watkins, Wilma Guice Anderson and Charlotte Wray; and brother, James Watkins.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour. Memorials may be made to: First Christian Church, 420 Catherine St., Metropolis, IL 62960; or Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., Seventh Floor, New York, NY 10001.
