Born July 21, 1927 in Kentucky, Mr. Sturgeon lived in Metropolis most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked on the river for over 40 years as a chief engineer.
Survivors include two sons, Robert L. Sturgeon and wife Rhonda of Marion and David G. Sturgeon and wife Charlene of Richmond, Ind.; two grandsons, Jonathan Sturgeon and wife April and Jesse Sturgeon, all of Marion; three granddaughters, Natasha Sturgeon and fiancé James Page of Leesburg, Ind. and Triniti Baker and husband Louis and Keri Hall and fiancé Rick Lynn, all of Marion; five great-grandchildren, Lillyana Page of Leesburg and Owen and Lauren Sturgeon, Hunter Baker, and Jaidyn Morse, all of Marion; two brothers, Vernon Sturgeon and Ben Sturgeon; and one sister, Pearl Smoot.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Nancy Sturgeon; and his parents, and George W. and Madie Sturgeon.
Funeral service was held Sunday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Pastor John Holt officiating. Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
