Georgia was born on Aug. 27, 1922 in Wolf Lake to William and Syntha Butterfield. She was a member of Word of Life Tabernacle in Metropolis. Her church and church family were very important to her.
After the death of her husband, Harry Earl Emery, in 1973, she worked at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Metropolis. However, her most important job was raising her children, whom she loved with all of her heart.
Georgia is survived by her children, Wanda Cole and husband Edward, Penny Emery and wife Charlene and Sherry Williams and husband Bill, all of Metropolis, Cindy Wilke and husband Randy of Karnak and Teressa Newbold and husband Jeff of Brookport; her grandchildren, Connie Parrish and husband Henry, Ronda Darnell, Lisa Harris and husband Charles, Rene’ Dees and husband Jeff, Tricia Dowell and husband Brian, Casey Warren and husband Gary, Clinton Ferguson and wife Miriam, Candace Ginger and husband Danny, Brandon Wilke, Richard Newbold and wife Trisha and Rachel Newbold; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dimple Brinker and Betty Grace; one brother, Mac Butterfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, William McKinley Butterfield and Syntha Leek Butterfield Lowery; her husband, Harry Earl “Penny” Emery; one daughter, Peggy Griffith; one stepson, Ronnie Emery; five sisters, Gladys Dailey, Jan Schafer, Dorothy Parker, Jackie Travis and Mary Eaves; and two brothers, Eugene Butterfield and William Butterfield.
Funeral service was held Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. Larry Lunsford officiating.
Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Brandon Wilke, Clinton Ferguson, Richard Newbold, Zach Tockstein, Danny Ginger and Mike Parker.
