With graduation losses, etc. Massac County’s Patriot golf teams are bouncing back nicely, thank you.
The boys finished behind Nashville at Crab Orchard last Monday losing by seven strokes at 152 for Nashville and 159 for the Patriots. Coach Gary Adkins was a little disappointed in his team’s course management in the four team event.
“I had talked to the boys about the par 5s on this course and how we should play them, some of it took and some of it didn’t,” he said.
Carterville and Anna were the other teams in the foursome. Zach Burnham with 36 and Luke Wieneke with 38 were the only Patriots to break 40 for the nine hole event.
The boys rebounded from the second-place finish to win the Marion Invitational held Wednesday at Kokopelli Golf Club. The boys recorded a team score of 314 to host school Marion’s 317 for the win. The 10-team event included Benton, Carbondale, Centralia, Harrisburg, Johnston City, Mt. Carmel, Mt. Vernon and Murphysboro. Mt. Carmel took third place with a 320 and Harrisburg placed fourth with a score of 324.
