Regional tournaments are this week for Massac County’s golf teams.

The Patriots kicked off tournament action at Marion’s Kokopelli Golf Club on Tuesday.

The Lady Patriots will follow suit on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Crab Orchard Golf Course in Carterville.

The Patriots tuned up for regional play with wins at the Southern Illinois River to River (SIRR) Conference tournament held Oct. 1 at Hickory Ridge Golf Course outside of Carbondale and a three-way meet with St. Mary and McCracken County held Sept. 24 at the Country Club of Paducah.

In the SIRR Conference tournament, the Patriots posted a seven-stroke win over runner-up Benton, 311-318, and were 10 strokes better than third-place Harrisburg.

In the Ohio division, Zach Burnham took medalist honors with a 73.

Kody Rendleman of Murphysboro was second with a 74.

Massac’s Luke Wieneke and Jon Duley both finished in the top 10 also with a 78 and 79 respectively.

Nashville, in the Mississippi division, posted the overall low team score with a 308 and ran away with their division.

The win was the third consecutive Conference Tournament title for the Patriots.

Massac County’s Lady Patriots didn’t fare as well in conference tournament play.

With Addie Gray missing from a foot injury, Carlin Flannery’s playing through sickness and Brittany Reynolds suffering through a rare off-day, the Lady Pats finished second behind Herrin.

Paige Ellerbusch medaled in the Ohio division with an 81.

The girls followed up that disappointment with a win at West Frankfort then played in the Illinois-Missouri Challenge.

Ellerbusch and Reynolds both medaled in the Challenge for the Illinois side.

Next came the Gary Blair Invitational with teams from Alton, Belleville, Carbondale, Edwardsville, Granite City, Highland, Hillsboro, O’Fallon and Nashville.

The ladies appeared to be rounding back into form nicely as they placed second in the stern competition.

Ellerbusch led the way for Massac with a 77 while Ali Eickholz shot 81.

Reynolds was back with a tidy 84, and Flannery and Gray shot 95 and 96 respectively.
