While the football team took center stage last week, the other Patriot teams have either started or are close to starting.

Massac’s Patriot golf team suffered a rare loss last week to Herrin when a couple of starters were unavailable.

The Lady Patriot golf team took a three-team match at Crab Orchard Country Club besting Carterville and Marion. The Lady Pats posted a whopping 28-stroke win over second place Carterville while Marion was a distant third. Massac’s four-player score was 165 with Paige Ellerbusch leading the way with a 38. Addie Gray shot 41, Ali Eickholz shot 42 and Brittany Reynolds came in at 44 to fill out the Massac card.

Earlier, the girls took down rival Eldorado on their home course with a 160 to 169 win. Balanced scoring was again the key for Massac as the ladies had two girls break 40 and the other four players all broke 50.

In a big tournament at Rochester this past weekend, the girls’ play was scrubbed after 14 holes due to weather conditions.

Massac’s volleyball team acquitted themselves very well in the SIRR Conference Tournament held at Herrin on Saturday.

The ladies came in a hard fought third place behind defending champ Nashville. Carterville took second overall coming out of its Pool C on top, as did Massac in Pool A. Massac’s talented outside hitter, Emily Hoard, made the all tournament team, as did teammate Jordan Willmes.
