Harold D. Basham, 85, of Mounds, died Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Born Nov. 28, 1927, in Karnak, Mr. Basham was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mounds; member of the Caledonia Masonic Lodge 47 AF/AM of Olive Branch; and veteran of the United States Army. He was a retired truck driver from Anna State Hospital and served as a Pulaski County Chief Deputy from 1958-1970.

Survivors include two sons, Stan Basham of Mounds and Joe David Basham and wife Paula of Metropolis; one daughter, Linda Jones of Mounds; four grandchildren, Donavan Wright and wife Cherie, Sarah Burd and husband Brandon, Joe D. Basham II and Emily Basham; five great-grandchildren; additional stepgrandchildren, Jerod, Jason and Jordan “Nick” Holland, Ben Mescher and Christian Childress; one stepgreat-grandson, Jon Holland; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave Basham and Eva Basham Basham; and his wife, Rosalie McDonough Basham.

Masonic rites, conducted by the Caledonia Lodge 47, and funeral service were held Sunday at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge with Rev. Buddy Walls officiating. Burial followed at Cypress Masonic Cemetery, with military honors shown by the Illinois National Guard and area veterans.

Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association or Heart Association.
