When the dust cleared late Saturday night, Harrisburg had become the first-ever team to win four consecutive EHT titles.
Harrisburg appeared to have number one seed Meridian shut down but had to hang on for dear life down the stretch in posting an 85-77 win in the championship game.
Massac County beat Union County, Ky. 68-42 for third place in Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. game.
Massac opened tournament play with a 90-28 beat down of Hardin County on Thursday. As the score would suggest, the game was over before it started.
Friday night’s tussle with Anna-Jonesboro was a different story as A-J hung tough through the first three quarters before some serious board work by Massac’s bigger front line and the dual scoring threat of Jalen Roundtree and Dalton Mitchell put the game out of the Wildcats’ reach.
The 77-59 win set up a Saturday afternoon rematch against the Harrisburg Bulldogs.
You knew after the 18-point whipping the Patriots put on the ‘Dogs at Metropolis just eight days prior Harrisburg would be primed for revenge. If you saw the first game, you saw Massac play a pretty solid game, and you saw Harrisburg turn tail late in the game as Massac beat them down the floor badly on several occasions.
