Harrisburg and Breese Central tangled Tuesday night for the right to represent southern Illinois in the Class AA state finals.

Breese Central improved their record to 31-1 with a 74-52 win over Pana, and Harrisburg won a hard fought 54-47 victory over Pinckneyville in the finals of the Eldorado sectional. Gov. Pat Quinn was in the audience to see the win.

In Class A, Meridian and Woodlawn reprised last year’s supersectional game.

The winner of the Breese Central and Harrisburg game will get the unenviable task of doing battle with the Joliet supersectional winner in Friday night’s first round action at Peoria.

A couple of familiar names turned up in the Joliet finals in South Holland’s Seton Academy and Chicago’s Providence St. Mel.

Class A play will have the winner of Woodlawn-Meridian tangling with the winner of the DeKalb supersectional between Sterling Newman Central Catholic and Winnetka North Shore Country Day in Friday afternoon’s session.
