Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna with Rev. John Kiehl officiating. Burial will be at Zion Cemetery in rural Massac County.
Harry was born April 25, 1938 on the family farm in the Big Bay community. He was the son of Julius H. Foss and Bertha W. Schmidt Foss.
Harry was united in marriage to Patsy A. Blasdel on May 17, 1963 at Metropolis United Methodist Church. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Kevin Foss and wife Kerri of Big Bay; one daughter, Charla Korte and husband Rob of Metropolis; four grandchildren, Dakota Foss, Katy Foss, Emma Korte and McKinnley Korte; one brother, Ernest Foss and wife Mary Ann of Metropolis; two sisters, Bernice Reynolds and husband Bobbie and Latrice Ragain, all of Metropolis; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his twin brother, Harold Foss; and one brother, Laverne “Buck” Foss.
Harry was a retired operating engineer in the construction trade. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 318 in Marion and had worked on various construction projects throughout southern Illinois.
Harry was a lifelong farmer. He had a deep love of the land and his family farm, which had recently been recognized as a Centennial Farm. Harry also was an antique tractor enthusiast and a member of the Purchase Area Tractor Club.
He was also a faithful and dedicated member of Faith Lutheran Church in Metropolis and New Columbia Masonic Lodge # 336 AF&AM.
Harry was a tireless worker and a devoted family man. He will be remembered as someone who always went the extra mile and was always willing to lend a helping hand to a friend or neighbor.
Masonic rites were conducted Tuesday evening at the funeral home under the auspices of New Columbia Masonic Lodge 336 AF&AM.
