Mrs. Carter was a member of First United Methodist Church in Metropolis where she was an organist, Sunday school teacher and led the youth group. She and her late husband, Jess Carter, owned and ran Carter Furniture and Hardware.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Goins and husband Danny and Connie Beyer, all of Paducah; five grandchildren, Denise Hutchison and husband Landon of Grand Rivers, Ky., Leslie Sherman and husband Mike of Lexana, Kan., Jennifer Walker of Overland Park, Kan. and Michelle Wooten and husband Mike and Jason Goins, all of Paducah; six great-grandchildren, Zachary Hutchison, Madeline Wooten, Mason Wooten, Cameron Sherman, Meghan Sherman and Carter Walker; and two sisters, Charlotte Durham and Carole Ellis, both of Urbana.
She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Oral and Violet Duncan Freeman; one son Don Carter; one grandson, Darren Beyer; one sister, Beverly Overman; and her son-in-law, Harold Beyer.
Funeral service was held Oct. 17 at First Methodist Church with Rev. Jon Cockrel and Rev. Jeff Bealmer officiating.
Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Landon Hutchison, Zachary Hutchison, Jason Goins, Michael Wooten, Bob Lingle and Preston Brewer.
