At Herrin Thursday, Massac County’s Lady Patriots track team finished in a very respectable seventh place tie with Carbondale in the sectional meet.

Cahokia’s powerful Comanches overwhelmed their competition with a whopping 135 points.

For Massac, Leilani Hill blew away her own personal best in the 800M run, taking first and qualifying for a trip to state.

Lady Patriot Emily Hoard was nursing a sore heel, and her first try in the triple jump wouldn’t have qualified but with a large contingent cheering her on, she went on to beat her personal best as well as the school record with a jump of 35’ 4”.

Hill just missed qualifying in the 200M dash, and Hoard just missed in the long jump.

For the record: Hill’s 800M time was the second best in the entire state and Hoard’s triple jump mark was the eighth best in the state.

The state Class A, AA and AAA finals will be held Thursday through Saturday in Charleston at Eastern Illinois’ O’Brien Stadium.
