The Massac County Historical Society has chosen the logo to be embossed in gold on the navy blue library quality leatherette cover of the upcoming Massac County, Illinois History and Families. The logo features the Elijah P. Curtis Home, which is owned and operated by the historical society.

The Curtis Home was built about 1870, when Major Curtis returned from the Civil War and married.

A late-19th century photo of the home when the Curtis family lived there shows a sapling magnolia in the front yard.

That magnolia, now well over a century old, is today so big it obscures the view of the home, making it necessary to modify it in the logo’s design.
