Left: Clark Blasdel enters his new two-bedroom house after cutting the ribbon at the dedication ceremony Saturday as the first of the rebuilds sponsored by the Massac & Pope County Recovery Committee (MPCRC). Blasdel lived in a small trailer that was destroyed by the Nov. 17, 2013 tornado. Jeff Bealmer, volunteer coordinator, and Joe Benberry from the committee join him. The dedication for three homes was held Saturday. Right: Levi Wetherington cuts the ribbon to his new three-bedroom house. This was the second rebuild for families displaced by the tornado with the help from the MPCRC. Also present at the dedication ceremony was Larry Busch from the Southern Illinois Community Foundation, Amber Wells from the Red Cross, Mayor Billy McDaniel from Metropolis and members of the Shawnee Development — all instrumental in bringing help and hope to the tornado survivors. Pictured are Ed Osborn, construction chairman, Lee Wetherington, homeowner; his son Levi, daughter Shelby, Bealmer and Benberry. During the opening comments, Pastor David LeNeave, MPCRC chairman, emphasized the dedication was not to praise the agencies for making it all happen but to recognize that through God’s love and the love in peoples’ hearts, hope can be restored to those that lost everything.
