Massac County Sheriff Ted Holder said county dispatch received the call from Livingston County, Ky. at 9:16 p.m. Sunday night.
Both Brookport first responders and Massac County Fire Department responded to the scene of the fire and the family had gotten the boy out of the bedroom in the burning home.
Cardio pulmonary resuscitation was performed on Elmore by the first responders on the scene prior to being taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
While the cause of the fire is still being investigated, it is thought to have began in the living room area, near a couch. The fire was contained to one location in the house and because of the lack of oxygen, the fire smothered itself, which left no damage to the outside of the home.
Aikins Farmer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Elmore.
