Howard A. Sutton Sr., 87, of Metropolis, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013 at Baptist Health Paducah after a long illness.

Funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday, April 10 at Broadway Church of Christ, with Bro. William D. Hensley officiating. Burial will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Metropolis.

Mr. Sutton was born Aug. 20, 1925 in Mermet. He worked at Baker Construction, Portland Cement, Mermet Lake Refuge and Shawnee Development before retiring. He was a Mason and became a member of Broadway Church of Christ in Metropolis on Sept. 1, 2007.

Howard enjoyed hunting, fishing, CB radios, gardening and restoring antique cars.

Howard is survived by his wife, Helen Bradford Sutton; six children, Audrey Sutton of Las Vegas, Nev., Cathy Sutton of Atlanta, Ga., Carolyn Sutton of Metropolis, Howard Sutton Jr. of Mermet, Bessie Sutton of Bowie, Md. and Patricia Autman of Kankakee; one sister, Christine Sutton of Metropolis; five grandsons, Brian Houston and wife Sonia of Las Vegas, Michael Ray Sutton and wife Michelle and Austin Eskridge and wife Carly, all of Metropolis, Christopher Brown of Mermet and Anthony Sutton of Mayfield, Ky.; six granddaughters, Nanette Knight and husband Dave of Las Vegas, Julie Sanchez and husband Juan of Satellite Beach, Fla., Kimberly Cleveland of Upper Marlboro, Md., Melissa Roundtree of Metropolis, Kami Turner and husband Rob of Hendersonville, Tenn. and Niyathi Naidu of Forestville, Md.; and a host of great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ocie Smith Sutton; one son, Tommy Sutton; three brothers, Charlie Sutton, George Paul Sutton and Leon Sam Sutton; and one sister, Earnestine Sutton.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour Wednesday at the church.

Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home of Metropolis is in charge of arrangements.
